Project Description
Perini is the prime contractor for a USCG task order under a USCG National MACC to design and construct 50 housing units at Nemetz Park Site on Base Kodiak, Alaska. The Nemetz Park Site will be developed with 25 duplexes involving a combination of 19 three-bedroom and 6 four-bedroom units, two of which are ADA accessible. Additional scope of work includes construction of Transition Roadway at South Alyeska Ave. and Barometer Court Recreational Vehicle (RV) Parking Area that consists of site clearing and grubbing, rough grading, landscaping, curbing, sidewalks, paving, lighting, and utilities.
Weather intrusion is a significant factor at Base Kodiak due to the extreme weather (e.g., wind, rain, and snow) conditions. To prevent the exterior walls from being susceptible to weather intrusion, a rainscreen system will be utilized with lap fiber cement siding over battens, continuous insulation, and weather resistive/air barrier to reduce the risk of water entering the envelope. In addition to an efficient building envelope, the electrical and mechanical systems were designed to conserve energy. Each of the completed duplexes is designed to achieve LEED for Homes certification.
