Perini Management Services managed the repairs to this National Historic Landmark that suffered damage from an earthquake on August 23, 2011. The work consisted of removal of loose stone fragments, repair of cracks and mortar joints, including Dutchman repairs, and replacement of the lightning protection system. An elaborate scaffolding system was erected by hand and winch to enclose the entire Monument, reaching a height of 555 feet. The scaffolding  embraced the Monument by a tension/pressure system so as not to damage the historic structure. A decorative shroud and lighting was installed to illuminate the Monument and maintain its iconic image during construction. Due to its proximity to the White House and public events on the National Mall, continuous coordination with the National Park Service and United States Park Police was required for security.
