Alcatraz Cellhouse Repairs Completed Ahead of Schedule

Perini completed its contract to stabilize and repair the walls of the historic cellhouse on Alcatraz Island ahead of the contractual completion date of December 10, 2017. After achieving substantial completion of Phase II on October 26th, we completed the last remaining item of installing the new recreation yard door on November 15th and left the island for the final time. This project for the National Park Service was performed in two main phases and consisted of removal and replacement of deteriorated concrete at both exterior and interior walls, installing cathodic protection systems, and painting the walls with an elastomeric coating to prevent future deterioration from the harsh wind, rain and salt air. The popular tourist destination remained open to the public throughout the project performance.
